Federal Poverty Level 2026: FPL Chart by Household Size (100%–400%)

The federal poverty level is the baseline every Medicaid, CHIP, SNAP and Marketplace income limit is built on. HHS sets one figure for a single person and a fixed increment per additional household member. Medicaid expansion uses 138%, CHIP commonly 200–300%, and Marketplace subsidies phase out at 400%.

  • 100% — SNAP net income test; QMB Medicare Savings Program; Marketplace subsidy floor in non-expansion states
  • 120% / 135% — SLMB and QI Medicare Savings Programs
  • 130% — SNAP gross income test; free school meals
  • 138% — Medicaid expansion adults (133% + 5% disregard)
  • 150% — LIHEAP energy assistance in many states; Extra Help (Part D)
  • 185% — WIC; reduced-price school meals
  • 200–300% — CHIP and pregnancy coverage in most states
  • 400% — Upper limit for Marketplace premium tax credits

$22,025 per year for one person and $45,540 for a family of four. This is the Medicaid expansion limit.
Why are Alaska and Hawaii different?
HHS publishes separate, higher guidelines for Alaska and Hawaii to reflect their higher cost of living.
When does the 2026 FPL take effect?
HHS published the 2026 guidelines in the Federal Register in January 2026. Medicaid programs adopt them over the following weeks; Marketplace subsidies for 2026 coverage still use the prior year's figures.
