Medicare Savings Programs (MSPs) use Healthy Connections funds to pay Medicare premiums and, for QMB, deductibles and copays. In 2026, a single person in South Carolina can qualify for QI with income up to $1,796 a month, and for QMB up to $1,330.

What each program covers
- QMB is the most valuable: providers cannot bill you for Medicare deductibles or coinsurance, and the Part B premium is paid for you.
- SLMB and QI pay only the Part B premium (about $185/month in 2025), which is added back to your Social Security check. QI is funded annually and served first-come, first-served.
- All three automatically qualify you for Extra Help with Part D drug costs.
How to apply
Apply through the South Carolina Department of Health & Human Services, not through Medicare. You can apply at the same time as full Medicaid; if you are over the Medicaid limit but under the MSP limit you get the MSP only.
