New York Medicaid Renewal 2026: What to Expect

New York Medicaid reviews every member's eligibility once a year. In 2026, New York first tries to renew you automatically using tax, wage and Social Security data; if that fails you receive a renewal packet that must be returned by the deadline or coverage ends.
How renewal works
- Ex parte (automatic) check. The agency checks electronic data. If your income still fits, you get an approval notice with nothing to do.
- Renewal form. If data is missing or shows a change, a pre-filled form arrives about 30–60 days before your renewal date. Confirm or correct it online, by phone or by mail.
- Decision. You receive a notice continuing, changing or ending coverage.
- Reconsideration period. If coverage ends for not returning the form, you usually have 90 days to submit it and be reinstated without reapplying.
Current 2026 income limits at renewal
Single adult$1,835per month
Family of 3 (adults)$3,142per month
Child, family of 3$4,553per month
Avoid losing coverage
- Keep your mailing address, phone and email current with the agency; most terminations are for unreturned mail.
- Report income changes within 10 days; small raises may move you from Medicaid to a low-cost Marketplace plan with no gap.
- Children often remain eligible after a parent loses coverage; renew them separately.
- If you are terminated, a Marketplace special enrollment period opens for 60 days.
Frequently asked questions
How often does New York Medicaid renew?
Every 12 months. Children have 12 months of continuous eligibility regardless of income changes.
What happens if I miss my New York Medicaid renewal deadline?
Coverage ends on the date in the notice. Return the form within 90 days and the agency must reinstate you without a new application if you are still eligible.
Will I be renewed automatically?
Often yes. If the state can verify income electronically and it is under the limit, you are renewed with no paperwork.
Do I need to renew Medicaid if my income changed?
Yes, and you must report the change within 10 days even outside renewal. Being over income ends adult coverage but may not affect children.
